DBW 2011 CONFERENCE CHAIR
Mike Shatzkin
Founder & CEO
The Idea Logical Company
Mike Shatzkin is founder & CEO of The Idea Logical Company, consultants to publishers and their trading partners. Mike has been actively involved in trade book publishing since his first job as a sales clerk in the brand new paperback department of Brentano’s Bookstore on Fifth Avenue in 1962. In his nearly 50 years in publishing, he has played almost all the roles: bookseller, author, agent, production director, sales and marketing director, and, for the past 30 years, consultant. His client list has included all of the English-speaking world’s leading publishers, as well as publisher suppliers and trading partners, particularly in the area of new technology.
Mike has organized industry conferences on our changing business for two decades. Since co-organizing the first “Electronic Publishing and Rights” Conference in the early 1990s, Mike has been speaking and writing about digital change. He has been the co-organizer of the Book Industry Study Group’s annual Making Information Pay conference for the past three years, and he has chaired events in London and Frankfurt and has spoken to industry groups across the globe.
Mike’s blog, The Shatzkin Files, is one of the most closely-watched ongoing commentaries on digital change in trade publishing.
DBW 2011 CONFERENCE COUNCIL (Bios and photos to come)
Mike Shatzkin: “We had a very successful debut annual conference for Digital Book World last January, even though we didn’t conceive the idea until June, put together a group of helpers (which we now call our Conference Council) until July, or draft the initial program until August. This year we’re way ahead of that schedule. We’ve put together a fabulous Council to advise us this year and we’re having a meeting of many of them next week to discuss the agenda and to start getting suggestions for speakers.
The Council gives us wide exposure and connections to the trade publishing industry. That way we make sure we don’t miss any ideas and we don’t miss knowing about any talented people whom our audience would want to hear.”
