According to John Sargent, the CEO of Macmillan, every publishing decision can be improved using data — from supply chain and workflows to the editorial acquisitions process and marketing campaigns.
Whether you’re a marketer at a traditional publishing house or a self-published author, you now have things like sales data and click data on your ad campaigns at your fingertips. Strive to gather as much data as possible — about your audience, about individual marketing campaigns, about social media engagement, and so on.

IDPF Close to Finalizing W3C Merger (PW)
During a tense community meeting at Digital Book World on Wednesday, the executive board of the International Digital Publishing Forum announced that an agreement finalizing its merger with the Internet standards organization, W3C, was weeks away.
European Investigations Lead to End of Audible/Apple Exclusivity (Pub Lunch)
Both Apple and Audible have agreed to end their worldwide digital audiobook exclusivity agreements following an investigation by the European Commission and the German federal cartel office. The investigations, which began in November 2015 and were sparked by a complaint from the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, which asserted in their filing that approximately 90 percent of the digital audiobook market was controlled by Audible and iBooks.

Children’s Author Platform Authorfy to Launch (Bookseller)
A new online platform connecting children’s authors and schools will launch this April. The platform, called Authorfy, was set up by Melanie Taylor-Bessent, who runs the Little Star Writing company, which offers creative writing workshops in London and Surrey. Authorfy will act as a hub connecting writers and children in schools, as well as providing resources such as creative writing activities.
