The subscription content platform Scribd announced today that it has hired Eric Shoup, previously of eBay and Ancestry.com, as its new Chief Operating Officer.
“I am thrilled to be joining Scribd as COO,” Shoup said. “I believe Scribd has the right ingredients to be a global brand at scale. I am looking forward to working with the team to create an innovative service for reading akin to what Netflix and Spotify have done for video and music.”
In a blog post, Scribd Co-Founder and CEO, Trip Adler, said that the company’s focus for 2016 is “scalable, sustainable growth,” and that Shoup’s “deep experience in product and general management, business development and marketing of leading consumer technology brands” makes him “a natural fit for Scribd, where his responsibilities will include managing and scaling the company’s overall operations and growing our subscriber base.”
In 2015, Scribd added content from all of the “Big Five” publishers and launched two new verticals, comic books and sheet music.
