HARVARD BOOK STORE PARTNERS WITH SHELFIE TO OFFER EBOOK BUNDLES
Leading independent bookstore partners with innovative startup to make
print-ebook bundles available to readers
May 3, 2016 (Cambridge, MA) – Today, Harvard Book Store announces a partnership with innovative smartphone app, Shelfie, to offer ebook bundles on a select number of New York Times best-selling books including TED Talks by Chris Anderson, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, and How To Cook Everything The Basics by Mark Bittman.
Shelfie is a free app that allows readers to digitize their print library. By taking a photo of their bookshelf (a “shelfie”), readers can identify a list of books eligible for digital bundles. Readers are able to download an ebook or audiobook by using the app to snap a photo of their book’s copyright page marked with a bookplate or their handwritten name. In bookstore programs Shelfie has run in in the past, bookstores have seen an 180% lift in sales on books stickered with the offer of a free or discounted ebook.
“Harvard Book Store is keen to promote reading across formats. We believe that bundling the ebook with the print book will be of great value to our customers. We are delighted to partner with Shelfie to make this possible,” said Harvard Book Store Owner, Jeff Mayersohn.
Shelfie’s VP Content, Mary Alice Elcock, says “What makes Shelfie unique is that we are a digital company in support of print. We only make a sale when a reader has first purchased a print book. We are incredibly excited to be working with Harvard Book Store, an exceptional independent bookseller, to promote ebook bundling to their customers.”
Harvard Book Store will be launching the promotion at their Chris Anderson event promoting TED Talks on May 3rd at 6pm at the Brattle Theatre. More information can be found on their website.
Shelfie is free and can be downloaded for iPhone and Android. Readers can bundle books from over 1,300 publishers including major publishing partners HarperCollins, Macmillan, Hachette and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
