HarperAudio to Host Radio Drama Contest with the Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts

New York, NY (February 3, 2016) – HarperAudio, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, today announced a radio drama contest open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students and alumni (who graduated no earlier than 2013) of Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. The contest invites entrants to submit an original script for a radio play. One Grand Prize Winner will receive the opportunity to enter into a publishing agreement with HarperCollins which includes an unabridged, multi-voice production of their script.

The contest is currently underway and the submission deadline is March 1, 2016 at 11:59 PM EST. In accordance with the Official Contest Rules original scripts are to be sent as an email attachment to RadioDrama@harpercollins.com.

Ana Maria Allessi, VP of Digital Innovation and Publisher of HarperAudio said, “The number of people listening to our traditional audiobook recordings is at an all-time high and we are keen to expand and innovate the types of recordings we publish. One great way to do this is to publish stories written specifically for the spoken word. We’re thrilled to have the talented folks at NYU’s Tisch School as a partner in this pursuit.”

“HarperAudio is both one of the largest and most established audiobook publishers, as well as one of its biggest innovators, so we’re particularly honored that they chose to initiate this contest centered exclusively around our students and alumni,” said Terry Curtis Fox, Arts Professor and Chair of the Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing in the Tisch School of the Arts. “The essence of our program is training students to work in any medium. Adding audio drama to the mix is a wonderful opportunity for our students and a logical extension of what we do.”

Contest entries will be evaluated based on the story’s promise of delivering a compelling multi-voice audio recording, informed by previous radio dramas but also employing a fresh, contemporary approach. Entries will be judged by a panel from HarperCollins and NYU. The winner will be announced on April 7, 2016.

The contest is being sponsored by HarperCollins Publishers, 195 Broadway, NY, NY 10007. NO PURCHASE OR ENTRY FEE NECESSARY.
