Company Snapshots: Radius Book Group

Company SnapshotsIn “Company Snapshots,” we pose a series of questions to leading providers of digital products and services and let them speak for themselves about what their company does, how they benefit publishers, and what they believe the biggest trends in the industry are. In today’s entry, we have Radius Book Group.

Radius Book GroupWhat does your company do?
Radius offers full-service publishing solutions for independent authors by combining decades of traditional publishing experience with entrepreneurial vision. Authors maintain their publishing rights, and we provide editorial, design, printing and distribution, and marketing and publicity services, according to their needs. We customize publishing packages to get an author’s project from concept to shelf, incorporating their preferences with our industry knowledge, offering guidance throughout the process.

What’s unique about your company compared to your competitors?
Our team is comprised of experts with established careers in mainstream publishing, and we’re built from the same infrastructure as a traditional publisher but with an indie spirit. We know what it takes to make a book successful, and we are committed to making the process as easy as possible for the author. We want writers to feel like they are being traditionally published while maintaining a level of control that only comes with self-publishing.

What’s the single biggest benefit your customers get from your service?
Our book-related experience is unmatched in the emerging self-publishing space. We have been involved with dozens of New York Times bestsellers and amassed decades of relationships in editorial, distribution, marketing and publicity. Our commitment to providing customized services puts us in a unique position to deliver on an author’s vision for their book.

What’s the single biggest problem for your customers right now?
Discoverability is the biggest problem for most indie authors. There are a variety of ways for a book to get printed and distributed, but after it’s out in the world it can be tough for readers to know it exists. With thousands of books being published every year, finding unique and successful ways of marketing and publicizing an indie book is essential to it reaching its audience. Whether it’s creating search-optimized cover copy, researching comparable titles, engaging with readers through online outreach, or getting media coverage, deep industry knowledge is invaluable in getting your book recognized.

What’s the single biggest opportunity for your customers right now?
Supported self-publishing, or hybrid publishing is becoming more and more accepted in the industry, and it’s giving authors many more viable pathways to get their projects out into the marketplace. The stigma of self-publishing is diminishing, and with the number of success stories in the self-publishing world growing, those opportunities will continue to evolve. It’s an exciting time to be working with independent authors whose vision and enthusiasm continue to transform the industry.
