Simon & Schuster Puts Ebooks on Playster’s Subscription Platform

Playster subscription ebooks Simon & SchusterIn a deal announced this week, Simon & Schuster becomes the second major publisher to make its ebooks available on the subscription-based digital content platform Playster.

The first book publisher to partner with Playster, HarperCollins added 14,000 back-list titles to the Montreal-based subscription service last month. Currently in beta, Playster offers unlimited access to catalog featuring a range of entertainment media, including TV, movies, games and ebooks, for $15.95 a month.

The company has said it’s looking at allowing users to subscribe just to certain format-based categories at reduced rates.

Simon & Schuster likewise kicks off its deal with Playster with back-list titles only. A spokesperson for the publisher declined to give a concrete figure to its contribution but says it’s in the “thousands.”

Multi-Content Entertainment Platform Offers Users Unlimited Access to Simon & Schuster Backlist Titles

Scott Fitzgerald, Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren, and Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. In all, the Simon & Schuster agreement adds thousands of additional titles to the Playster library that also includes titles from HarperCollins Publishers and Harlequin.

With the official Playster app scheduled to launch in the summer of 2015, users will soon have unlimited access to movies, TV, music, video games in addition to books for a monthly subscription price. Playster’s content will be completely ad-free and will work on virtually any Internet-enabled device.
