The self-publishing services platform Reedsy, which launched in November last year, adds tools for authors to develop more robust web presences for connecting with readers.
According to a press release announcing the new features, Reedsy now lets authors “integrat[e] Goodreads fans, Amazon portfolios, social media accounts and personal blog posts into a single webpage.”
Originally a marketplace for authors to hire professional production, design and editorial help, Reedsy is now aiming to help answer the calls being made throughout the industry for more effective author platforms to aid in marketing and discovery.
Reedsy says author profiles created through its platform can be developed “for free and personalized with a profile picture and background imagery. They will also be publicly searchable, enabling authors to improve their Search Engine Optimization and will look beautiful on any mobile device through a fully responsive design.” Reedsy also provides participating authors limited metrics on traffic to their profiles.
Reedsy – now with author profiles!
Digital publishing startup Reedsy has launched its new author profiles feature, providing authors with a cohesive online presence and a powerful marketing platform to connect directly with readers.
“When we launched the Reedsy marketplace, we allowed hundreds of distinguished publishing professionals to create a webpage in order to present their services,” says Reedsy CEO Emmanuel Nataf. “It was so well received by the designers and editors that we decided to do the same thing for authors.”
The new feature will enable authors to create their own website, integrating Goodreads fans, Amazon portfolios, social media accounts and personal blog posts into a single webpage.
Author profiles can be created for free and personalized with a profile picture and background imagery. They will also be publicly searchable, enabling authors to improve their Search Engine Optimization and will look beautiful on any mobile device through a fully responsive design.
“A cohesive online presence has proven to be extremely powerful in many areas” exclaims Reedsy cofounder Ricardo Fayet. “Just think of what LinkedIn did for professionals, or how Behance helped creative people we have now created the same thing for authors. Whether they are traditionallypublished, indiepublished or hybrid authors, we are helping them gather all their relevant information in a single location. Plus, we are doing it in a beautiful way.”
Powerful marketing platform
A dedicated “follow” button on the profiles will enable readers to subscribe to an author’s updates simply by entering their email address. These can be easily downloaded as a .csv file or synchronized with an existing MailChimp list, increasing an author’s direct marketing capabilities
Author profiles will also provide statistics on daily visits and “follows”, enabling authors to monitor their reader numbers. “Authors are increasingly putting links to their newsletters at the end of their books,” explains Nataf. “Now they can put a link to their Reedsy author profile instead, where current information about readings, releases and upcoming events can be easily compiled and updated.”
New fundraising round
Thousands of authors have signed up to Reedsy in order to request editorial and design services from experienced publishing professionals. In fewer than four months since launching, hundreds of them have successfully found the right editor or designer for their book, confirming that Reedsy is quickly filling a gap in the marketplace for curated freelance book services.
Reedsy is a digital publishing startup that joined Seedcamp (#1 European startup accelerator) in June 2014. Reedsy officially launched in November 2014 and has just closed a seed fundraising round with Seedcamp, Scottish publishing company DC Thomson, DN Capital, Kima Ventures and notable European and NorthAmerican business angels — including Ben Yoskovitz, bestselling author of Lean Analytics, who (naturally!) has his own author profile
