Fierce Ink Press to Hold Open Audition Style Event for Canadian Young Adult Authors
Canadian young adult authors will get the chance to pitch a book to Fierce Ink Press at their #FiercePitch event via Google+ Hangout, which will take place August 21, 6 to 8 p.m. AST.
Each author will have five minutes to pitch a young adult title to Fierce Ink Press publishing label executive Colleen McKie and freelance editor Penelope Jackson. McKie and Jackson will then have five minutes to provide feedback on the pitch. The author who presents the best pitch will have the opportunity to submit the full novel to Fierce Ink Press for consideration (with no guarantee of publication), skipping the initial query normally required. The winner and title of the book will be announced at the end of the event.
“I am super excited about this event,” says Jackson. “It’s a great way for authors to get their work in front of a publisher and also to get some much-valued feedback on their project. And it’s fun to hear authors pitch their books and to find out what’s being written.”
Fierce Ink Press is currently open to submissions, and looking for new ways for authors to query their novel.
“Since we started up in June of 2012, we’ve always tried to innovate,” says Kimberly Walsh, Fierce Ink Press publishing label executive. “As a small independent publisher, it’s absolutely necessary in order to thrive. With #FiercePitch we’re hoping to reach an online-savvy community of authors across Canada. We’re extremely pleased to be working with one of our freelance editors, Penelope Jackson, who is incredibly skilled in children’s and young adult literature. We hope to be able to provide valuable feedback for ten authors who pitch to us during the Google+ Hangout event.”
Authors who want to take part in #FiercePitch will need to sign up and can do so via the form on the Fierce Ink Press website. Information on number of spaces available, rules and further details can also be found on the website.
