Hachette isn’t the only major publisher now in talks with Amazon, according to WSJ.com. Simon & Schuster is also in talks with Amazon:
The country’s largest bookseller is also in talks with Simon & Schuster, said Leslie Moonves, CEO of the publisher’s parent CBS Corp. at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colo.
“We are negotiating with Amazon as we speak,” Moonves said (video below).
Mooves also said that he’s personally met with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and that “Amazon has a definite point of view about what should be done in the publishing business.”
A quick check of some Simon & Schuster best-sellers indicates that the print versions are being kept in stock by Amazon, unlike some of Hachette’s top titles, which are taking weeks to ship.
A Simon & Schuster said there wasn’t more to add beyond what Moonves said and Amazon declined to comment.
