Nook Launches Audiobook App for Android

nookNook launches an audiobook app for Android users, sweetening the deal by bundling two free audiobook titles with first-time downloads of the new app for a limited time.

Earlier this month, Scribd added audiobooks to its subscription ebook platform in a move meant to give Amazon’s Audible a run for its money. An audio streaming start-up called Skybrite, which offers audiobooks alongside other content like recorded seminars and stand-up comedy, is currently in beta.

Scribd said it’s hoping to entice ebook readers to listen to more audiobooks, seeing the two markets as potentially complementary. Nook is now angling to achieve something similar with its own ebook customers, especially those who already use its Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook tablet.

Nook appears to be bulking up its product offering on a variety of fronts as Barnes & Noble hunts for a potential buyer for the company (or parts of it). Last week Nook expanded its range of publishing services for authors.

I don’t want to subscribe to anything. I never imagined this problem when I switched from iOS to android. I figured the Google Play store offered pretty much the same thing when it comes to audiobooks. I just want one company where I pay whatever price for a single book. And I can delete and re-download that book at my pleasure so I can use that service for future purposes.. Which is what iTunes allows. Doing a subscription based service is a extraordinary more expensive and less convention option for my listening habits. Does anyone have any suggestions?
