Launch Kids features top executives and innovators discussing the future of the children’s book publishing business. Focused on both traditional print publishers moving into the digital space and digital players partnering with established publishers, the conference highlights new digital products, platforms, and channels. Experts will share their insights into the trends and technology that children’s publishers should consider when developing their content and looking for new partners and paths to market.
Book Industry Study Group Making Information for Higher Education Conference–Co-located with Digital Book World for the first time, this full-day program offers insights into the unfolding digital transformation in higher education publishing. With new results from Student Attitudes Toward Content in Higher Education, BISG’s ongoing survey of content preference and use trends, and perspectives from industry leaders on content, platforms, and emerging models, this full-day conference is packed with value for senior managers in publishing technology and operations, marketing, strategy, and content development; retailers; and those involved in content delivery whether print or digital.
Digital Design and Production Conference: The Mechanics of Implementation– Digital Book World, Adobe and other ebook production and technology experts present a day of nuts-and-bolts sessions focused on production, workflow, design, EPUB3, typography and the future of ebook production.
Pre-Conference Workshops– Three-hour workshops focus on ebook production and marketing, licensing, driving agency growth content development for multiple platforms, and ebooks and the law.
Opening Reception and Screening of “Out of Print”-Reception, discussion and screening of Out of Print an independent film from Director Vivienne Romani that examines the effect of new technology on the publishing industry. Proceeds from this evening event benefit the Goddard Riverside Community Center in New York City.
Digital Book World Conference & Expo Day 1: Tuesday, January 14, 2014
The first day of the Digital Book World Conference and Expo focuses on the CEO’s view of what’s in store. Technology trends will be addressed by Tim O’Reilly of O’Reilly Media, CNBC’s Jim Cramer will share his thoughts on investing in publishing. Sessions on data development, management and manipulation, children’s publishing, and change management will feature publishing experts and technologists. Throughout the day, exhibits will be open showcasing nearly 50 service suppliers to the digital publishers.
That evening, at the Digital Book Awards Gala LeVar Burton, actor and producer of Reading Rainbow, will host the awards ceremony that recognizes the best in digital books and apps.
Digital Book World Conference & Expo Day 2: Wednesday, January 15, 2014
Morning sessions offer an overview of the publishing industry’s most disruptive customer- Amazon.com. Presenters, including Brad Stone, author of The Everything Store, and Benedict Evans of Enders Analysis are all experts on the Amazon business and will offer background as well as strategies for successfully working with and competing against, this customer. Exhibits will be open. Afternoon content focuses on self-publishing, role of libraries, community building and a wrap-up of the conference.
