While ebooks continue to boom around the world, the growth of ebook revenue and e-reading adoption in the U.S. has slowed somewhat.

The infographic below charts several of the data points that observers and analysts have highlighted when citing an ebook growth slowdown.

Publishers looking forward to ebooks dominating the publishing business in the near future and concerned that future won’t come to pass have a few data points of their own to hold on to. According to the latest report on ebook reading from the Pew Internet & American Life project, more Americans are reading ebooks than ever before and more of them own an e-reader than ever before. And according to a new study on children and e-reading from Digital Book World and PlayCollective, a children’s digital media strategy firm, more kids are reading digitally than ever.

  1. The first bar chart has a major error: The last bar depicts the growth rate while all the others represent the share of the market. Please fix!

    • You are right, the bar was not true to the stat. This has now been amended and the bar removed. Thanks for your response.

  2. You completely misrepresented the percents from the Pew study too. Two sloppy errors in a row and I don’t care about the rest. Sure looks nice, though.

  3. While the Pew study has some great data it is not actually a source for any of the stats within the article, you can find the sources listed at the bottom. I think maybe that it is referenced in the paragraph before there is a little confusion. Also the Pew studies looked at the American figures where we have tried to integrate UK and US figures.
