Sourcebooks Acquires Simple Truths, Leading Publisher & eRetailer of Inspirational and Motivational Books

Sourcebooks has acquired Naperville-based Simple Truths, best known for designing and marketing inspirational and motivational books.  This marks Sourcebooks’ 15th acquisition since its founding in 1987, and the largest in the company’s history.

Simple Truths was founded in 2005 by Mac Anderson, who is also the founder of Successories, the leader in designing and marketing products for motivation and recognition, which he sold in 2004.  Since 2005, Simple Truths has grown steadily into a multifaceted brand with extensive e-commerce and online marketing abilities, including 1.2 million customers and newsletter subscribers. Simple Truths ranks #669 on The Internet Retailer Guide, which lists the leading players in North American e-retailing based on web sales.

Simple Truths will become an imprint of Sourcebooks with about 100 backlist and forthcoming titles, including bestsellers, such as The Dash: Making a Difference with Your Life, 212° The Extra Degree, and Simple Truths of Service, which (combined) have sold nearly 1.5 million copies. Simple Truths books, which are sold direct-to-consumer, contain motivational and inspirational content around these themes, such as attitude, teamwork, leadership and making a difference. Many books come with an accompanying three-minute video that can be viewed online or purchased with the book. In the last seven years, there have been over 100 million views of their videos online.

The acquisition will bring Simple Truths staff to Sourcebooks, including Anderson as Founder and Executive Editorial Director, Simple Truths; and Dan Green, Director of Simple Truths.
