Like many other media companies, Sony has decided to dabble in book publishing. Its first effort is a book about the popular AMC show Breaking Bad, which is produced by Sony Pictures Classics.
This is SPC’s first ebook, a spokesperson said. It’s unclear whether more are planned.
The ebook, Breaking Bad: Alchemy, is available on iBooks — and only on iBooks — for $7.99, what the company calls a “limited-time” price. Given that the ebook is produced by a Sony company and Sony owns and operates an ebook business, one might wonder why the book is only available on Apple’s iBooks platform.
The reason, according to a company spokesperson, is that the technology used to create the Breaking Bad ebook is “proprietary to Apple.” The spokesperson later confirmed that iBooks Author was used to create the ebook.
