Smashwords Hits 200,000 Titles

Self-publishing platform Smashwords has now published 200,000 ebooks by indie authors, founder and CEO Mark Coker told Digital Book World.

When we sat down with Coker for a wide-ranging interview in May 2012, the company had published about 121,000 titles. The Los Gatos, Calif.-based firm was founded in 2008 after Coker found it difficult to self-publish a book he had written with his wife.

Today, the company distributes ebooks to Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and many other ebook stores — though, notably, it only distributes a limited number of titles to Kindle.
