In inking deals with MGM, Paramount Pictures and other major studios, Nook is adding more content to its video catalog in an attempt to bring more consumers to its platform — a strategy well-used by Amazon, which, in addition to signing deals with studios and other content providers, is creating its own original shows.
It was recently reported that Barnes & Noble would be “rethinking” its digital strategy, including the possibility of discontinuing the Nook (though the company has denied the latter). Over the important holiday quarter, Nook sales were down versus the previous year as its competition increased tablet sales due to a worldwide boom in tablet purchases by consumers.
