Industry Experts Ted Hill, Bill Kasdorf and Ashley Mabbitt to Speak at the DBW Publishing Services Expo
July 8, 2013 – NEW YORK – Publishers seeking vetted partners for solving critical operational challenges can make valuable connections at the new Digital Book World Marketing + Publishing Services Expo on September 26, 2013 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City.
At the Publishing Services Expo, attendees will learn about trends and best practices from three leading experts who will speak and coordinate the expo’s three “tracks” — editorial/production, digital asset management/distribution and rights/royalties. Each track will include a 75-minute seminar followed by 75 minutes of vendor ‘speed dating’ with a curated group of service suppliers. Event details and registration can be found on the Publishing Services Expo website.
|Ted Hill, president of THA Consulting, will lead off the day with a session on Digital Asset Management & Distribution. He will cover the opportunities and challenges offered by doing it in-house versus using a content provider and offer best practices for managing resources successfully and cost-effectively. Hill will touch upon metadata management, working with emerging formats, special considerations for international distribution, and future-proofing your processes and digital assets.|
|Bill Kasdorf, vice president, content solutions for Apex CoVantage, will coordinate the topic of|
Editorial & Production: Creative Development Tools and Workflow. He’ll explain why digital and XML- based workflows are the necessary new path for publishers to get from manuscript and art to books, ebooks, and web display of their IP. In this session, publishers who have made the transition will explain what’s involved, how hard or easy it is, and what benefits they’ve managed to achieve. They’ll also give suggestions to those who haven’t done it yet about how best to go about switching to a digital or XML- based workflow.
Ashley Mabbitt, assistant director, global rights at John Wiley and Sons will bring together experts on Rights & Royalties Management to address how new rights opportunities frequently arise in the digital age. The number of rights licensing opportunities is rising quickly, but the average revenue from each one is falling—so efficiency is key. Fortunately, there are many services to offer help to publishers in this regard. Publishers who haven’t updated their rights and royalties practices, will leave this session with plenty of actionable ideas.
As noted, each Publishing Services Expo presentation will be followed by 75 minutes of “speed dating.” Participants can use these pre-scheduled appointments with a knowledgeable group of experienced vendors to ask questions specific to their company’s current needs. Examples of participating companies include Cameo, a provider of publishing services from comprehensive project management to document conversion to print-on-demand; and Firstsource, a provider of customer-centric business process services, including customer management, data / transaction processing and collections.
The Publishing Services Expo is priced to allow companies to choose multiple representatives to participate in the full-day event; or attend one of two tracks best suited to their current strategy and business needs. Event details and registration can be found at marketing.digitalbookworld.com.
