Editorial & Production: Creative Development Tools and Workflow. He’ll explain why digital and XML- based workflows are the necessary new path for publishers to get from manuscript and art to books, ebooks, and web display of their IP. In this session, publishers who have made the transition will explain what’s involved, how hard or easy it is, and what benefits they’ve managed to achieve. They’ll also give suggestions to those who haven’t done it yet about how best to go about switching to a digital or XML- based workflow.
Ashley Mabbitt, assistant director, global rights at John Wiley and Sons will bring together experts on Rights & Royalties Management to address how new rights opportunities frequently arise in the digital age. The number of rights licensing opportunities is rising quickly, but the average revenue from each one is falling—so efficiency is key. Fortunately, there are many services to offer help to publishers in this regard. Publishers who haven’t updated their rights and royalties practices, will leave this session with plenty of actionable ideas.
As noted, each Publishing Services Expo presentation will be followed by 75 minutes of “speed dating.” Participants can use these pre-scheduled appointments with a knowledgeable group of experienced vendors to ask questions specific to their company’s current needs.
