HarperCollins Launches E-Insider Program, to Distribute Ebooks to Authors, Influencers

HarperCollins is replacing, at least in part, the practice of distributing galley and promotional copies of books to authors and publicists. It has built a proprietary system for distributing limited ebook copies of new titles for promotional use.

HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS ANNOUNCES E-INSIDER PROGRAM TO DISTRIBUTE E-BOOKS TO AUTHORS

HarperCollins Publishers today announced the creation of the e-Insider Program, enabling authors to receive copies of their digital products. In response to the changing publishing industry and growing demand for e-books, HarperCollins is transforming the practice of providing authors with galleys and finished copies of their titles for promotional purposes by making digital formats available.

Through the e-Insider Program, authors will receive a limited number of e-galleys and finished e-books to be used for marketing and publicity purposes via a HarperCollins-built proprietary platform. Authors will be given unique, one-time use alphanumerical or QR codes, each of which will allow for the download of a complimentary copy of their books via e.HC.com.

The e-Insider Program will also be utilized by the HarperCollins marketing and publicity teams. Rather than distributing physical copies of books at industry events, HarperCollins can now provide a code that will bring promotional finished e-books or galleys directly to key constituents via e.HC.com. The platform allows for an easy downloading experience and is more environmentally friendly than distributing physical copies of books.

The e-Insider program and platform allows us to distribute secure e-books to authors, reviewers, bloggers or any other influential readers in the same way we have always distributed promotional print books at industry fairs and author events,” said Brian Murray, Chief Executive Officer and President of HarperCollins Worldwide.

Avon, Avon Impulse, Harper Teen and Harper Teen Impulse e-book titles will be made available through the e-Insider Program at BookExpo America in New York. Romance fans can also look for e-books from Avon at the Literacy for Life signing on July 17, and the Avon “Open House” publisher-hosted event on July 19 at the RWA National Conference in Atlanta.
