Ebook Best-Sellers $10 and Above Week Ending 1-12-13
Ebooks priced $10 and above once dominated the top-25 ebook best-seller list. Most of the best-selling books were published by the largest publishers — mostly by Random House and Penguin, actually — and they were priced by those publishers at $12.99 or $14.99 for the most part. There are at least three reasons why those books no longer make up a majority of the best-seller list:
1. Since retailers have gained the ability to discount those ebooks, prices have come down on the more expensive ebooks, leaving some of them on the list but at lower price points.
2. Following the holiday season, best-sellers from years past made a resurgence as millions of readers had an e-reading device for the first time and bought the discounted titles.
3. It’s possible that since so many best-sellers are now at more attractive price points, the ones that are still above $10 are not as attractive to consumers.
