Publishing Innovation Awards Recognize the Best in Ebooks, Apps and Transmedia

January 10, 2013 – NEW YORK – The year’s most innovative ebooks, enhanced ebooks, book apps and transmedia projects will be honored at the 2nd Annual Publishing Innovations Awards Luncheon on January 16, 2013 presented by F+W Media in conjunction with the Digital Book World Conference+ Expo. The mission of the Publishing Innovations Awards (PIAs) is to highlight excellent publishers/authors, encourage new thinking, and improve the reading experience in the digital age. Journalist Porter Anderson of the popular publishing column Writing on the Ether will host the awards presentation and announce the winners in 14 categories. Tom Allen, former U.S. Congressman and current head of the Association of American Publishers will present the keynote address. Tickets for the luncheon are included with a Total Access Pass registration to Digital Book World or may be purchased individually at conference.digitalbookworld.com.

“The Awards were founded for publishers, authors, developers, and innovative thinkers who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible,” explains Gary Lynch, Group Publisher, F+W Media’s Design, Publishing and Writing Communities. “PIA Winners are passionately focused on improving the reading experience in the 21st century by creating more engaging and entertaining reading environments.”

All ebook titles entered into the PIAs have gone through the QED review process and all winners will earn a QED seal, which stands for Quality, Excellence, Design. The QED process is a thorough, professional 13-point design review with an eye towards readability across multiple devices and in multiple formats. The QED aims to be a “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval” for ebooks – it signals to an ebook reader that the title will render well in whatever their preferred reading format and that they can buy with confidence.
