Digital Book World Conference + Expo:
Four Perspectives on the State of the Publishing Industry

January 3, 2013 – NEW YORK –Will the proliferation of tablets combined with relaxed price controls drive sales of ebooks? Are publishing CEOs bullish or bearish on sales growth potential in the coming year? Should investors look for opportunities in the publishing sector? These are just a few of the compelling topics on the docket Wednesday morning at the 4th Annual Digital Book World Conference + Expo, which runs January 15-17, at the Hilton New York Hotel. Find details about the three-day event at

The Digital Book World Conference + Expo focuses on the business challenges posed by technology to trade publishers. The speaker roster includes publishing professionals as well as academics, researchers and digital strategists who will forecast and interpret trends for the audience. James McQuivey, VP, Principal Analyst, Forrester Research will return to the Digital Book World stage to present Publishing Industry Forecast: Results of the 2012 Publishing Executive Survey. McQuivey will recap the annual Forrester Research survey of publishing executives about their view of the pace of industry change.

More from the publishing executive’s perspective will be shared in A CEO’s View of the Future Redux: Lessons Learned, Future Forecasts, moderated by David Nussbaum, Chairman & CEO, F+W Media. This will be a discussion of where the industry is headed and how execs are working to prepare their companies for the future. Joining Nussbaum on the panel are Marcus Leaver, CEO, The Quarto Group, Inc. Karen Lotz, President & Publisher, Candlewick Press and Gary Gentel, President, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

In eBook Pricing: State of Play and Analysis, Jeremy Greenfield, Editorial Director, Digital Book World and Dan Lubart, Principal, IoByte Solutions examine the ebook bestseller list for insight into how the settlement of the Department of Justice lawsuit by three major publishers—and the resulting relaxation of price controls—has affected sales, and what this means for the future.

Is book publishing an attractive asset class for investors? The question will be asked and answered in Investing in the Publishing Industry featuring Brian Napack, Senior Advisor, Providence Equity Partners, Michael Cader, Founder, Publishers Marketplace. In this session, Napack and Cader discuss how investors look at publishers and where this new era of acquisition—by publishing conglomerates, private equity, tech companies, and public investors—might lead.

The Digital Book World Conference + Expo is the central event in a week of conferences and workshops addressing trends and opportunities in a rapidly evolving digital world. A variety of registration packages are available, including the Total Access Pass, which gains the participant access to all conference sessions as well as the Publishing Innovation Awards and Pre-Conference Workshops. I’m a YA author on the West coast and, sadly, cannot get to New York for the Children’s Publishing event. Is it possible you will video it and make it available through your webcast series for a fee? Seems the digital thing to do, if you can make a return on production costs.

    Thank you.
