Chinese Authorities Prodding Apple, Amazon to Get Stricter About Ebook Piracy

China’s National Copyright Administration, an agency in China responsible for copyright affairs, has ordered Amazon, Apple and Taobao (a sort of Chinese Amazon) to report on measures they are taking when it comes to stemming intellectual property piracy, according to a report on Brightwire, an investment focused private media site.

While Amazon and Taobao should have no trouble with the new requests, said an expert interviewed by Brightwire, Apple may bristle at being regulated in this way by Chinese authorities and could fight the order.

When it comes to ebooks, piracy is thought not to be as large a problem as with films and music — partially because of the nature of the media and partially because of widespread availability of ebooks.
