Seasoned Education Technology Executives Appointed to Leadership Team
As more K-12 schools are implementing 1:1 device programs and are searching for ways to support student learning through new technologies, Brain Hive® continues to reimagine the eBook model for schools. Brain Hive, LLC, announced today that it has added several enhancements to its eReading platform, has expanded its eBook collection with award-winning titles from Highlights for Children and Toon Books, and has named a new management team focused on accelerating state-level and school district adoption of its eBook lending service.
The company introduced several new enhancements to its platform this fall including single sign-on capabilities to facilitate management of individual user names/passwords. Students can now create, save, and export citations, while teachers can use the citation tool to improve students’ research and information literacy skills—important skills in the Common Core State Standards. Students can export saved notes—also useful for research projects and assignments. The new one-click dictionary offers kid-safe definitions for any word within an eBook. Finally, school administrators can now assign varied eBook settings and/or student profile settings by grade level, giving schools even greater control over budgets and usage. The company also introduced a concierge program this fall to support Brain Hive members through a successful implementation and launch of the program in their schools.
In addition, Brain Hive announced two essential leadership team appointments. Terri Soutor has been named as Brain Hive’s President. Terri was previously Vice President of Marketing and Digital Products at Lerner Publishing Group, a sister company to Brain Hive under Lerner Universal Corporation. While at Lerner, Terri was a key driver of Brain Hive’s formation and played a critical role in securing essential strategic and publishing partnerships. Terri was Vice President of Marketing at PLATO Learning from 2003-2009 and has been in software marketing, education technology, and publishing for over 20 years with a personal and professional mission for joining exceptional content with technology in an accessible and affordable way to improve teaching and learning in our nation’s schools.
Scott Mader joins Brain Hive as its National Sales Director. Scott, a former educator and consultant, brings a successful track record of K-12 district sales to the company. Scott comes to Brain Hive from Blackboard, Inc., managing the company’s largest K-12 implementations on the East coast. Prior to his tenure with Blackboard, Scott spent more than ten years with Edmentum (previously PLATO Learning) in national and regional sales and business development positions.

Schools pay just $1.00 for each book that is checked out from Brian Hive—with the option to purchase high-use eBooks—offering an easy, cost-effective way of acquiring more than 5,500 fiction and nonfiction eBooks from 25 publishers, as well as printable activities, teaching resources, and online Accelerated Reader™ quizzes from Renaissance Learning. Nearly 800 schools representing a half-million students have joined Brain Hive since its launch, and the company expects hundreds more school members this school year.
