Nook has launched apps for iOS, Android and Roku, a home digital content streaming service, that will allow users to access its streaming video services from mobile devices and their living rooms. The move dovetails with the Barnes & Noble stated strategy of distributing its content through third-party devices.
The new apps will allow Nook customers to buy and stream video on iOS, Android and Roku devices. Barnes & Noble also launched a specialized app for Nook tablets that will give users the same functionality.
Following a series of poor earnings reports with especially poor results for its Nook digital media division, Barnes & Noble announced that it would no longer build new Nook tablets and that it would market its digital content through e-reader devices and third-party tablets. William Lynch, the CEO, left the company soon after the strategy shift.
