Chairman and Editor-in-Chief
March 5, 2013
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Anne Messitte has been named Executive Vice President of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. She will continue as Publisher, Vintage Anchor Books, reporting to me. This appointment takes effect immediately.
Anne has exceptional talents as a publisher and over many years has guided Vintage Anchor to an industry-leading position in paperback publishing. Since she became publisher in 1999, Vintage Anchor has realized enormous growth in sales and market-share. Her deep understanding of our business and its continuing evolution has enabled Anne to nurture the careers of so many of our most esteemed writers, as well as direct one of the best teams in publishing.
Anne’s current responsibilities for Vintage Anchor will continue, including direction of its editorial, publicity and marketing departments, and our publishing group’s digital backlist, Spanish-language and academic programs. As a publishing group, we have come to rely on Anne’s leadership, and the work of the very talented and creative Vintage Anchor team, to support the longevity of the books that we publish, as paperbacks, and as eBooks, and holistically, to foster a place where authors are always the primary focus.
As Executive Vice President at Knopf Doubleday, Anne will now broaden the strategic role she plays in our publishing group, working closely with myself, Group President Tony Chirico and others on our core executive team, to define opportunities and manage change as we continue to successfully grow our business. In addition to her leadership role within the group, we will also look to Anne to continue her editorial acquisition work for all of our hardcover and paperback imprints, adding to a list of bestselling writers that includes EL James and Paulo Coelho. For Anne, indeed for all of us here at Knopf Doubleday, our work begins with the author and extends to a deep understanding of the readers and communities that support their work.
Please join me in congratulating Anne on this richly deserved promotion, and in wishing her continued success in the years to come.
