When Agent Becomes Publisher: A Sign of the Digital Times
Literary agencies have been instrumental in helping some authors reclaim their digital rights and sell their own back-list digitally. For the first time, agency William Morris Endeavor will publish an original work through its publishing arm, 212 Books. Publishers Lunch has the story (David Frum to Release A Novel, with Agency WME As His Publisher):
While PATRIOTS will be the first original publication for WME, the agency has done considerable work in helping clients make available digital editions of their work–both bringing back out-of-print titles and issuing ebook versions of books for which digital rights were never granted. eBooks brought to market with the agency’s assistance are said to number in the high double-digits if the not the low hundreds, with a considerable number of additional titles in production and on the way.
