Vanity Fair is releasing a new e-book, The Sopranos: The Vanity Fair Oral History, reports Publishers Weekly. The book will be sold for $1.99 on iPad, Nook and Kindle and is the fourth such book Vanity Fair has produced.

Vanity Fair e-books are extended versions of pieces published in the magazine. Editor-in-chief Graydon Carter told Publishers Weekly that the pieces are chosen based on the strength of the writing and reporting and the subject matter.

Regarding the move from magazine piece to e-book, Carter said, “the incredible access VF had to the cast and crew of The Sopranos left us with an embarrassment of riches. Editors had to make tough decisions and too much good material became blue pencil casualties when the story was published in the magazine last April.”

Other media properties with a similar “embarrassment of riches” have recently entered into the e-books game, including NBC and Hearst.
