As digital corporate development and partnerships become increasingly important for book publishers, one of the world’s largest has hired an executive to oversee the function.
Marcel Reichart is joining Random House parent company Bertelsmann as executive vice president of digital development and partnerships, reporting to Thomas Hesse, the president of corporate development and new businesses.
Reichart has experience working in business incubators and with start-ups.

Gütersloh, June 4, 2012 – Marcel Reichart (39) has been appointed to the newly created position of Executive Vice President Digital Development and Partnerships at Bertelsmann’s Corporate Center effective October 1, 2012. In his capacity as EVP, Reichart will strengthen Bertelsmann’s presence in the relevant forums and networks, scout promising businesses and possible collaborations for Bertelsmann in the digital domain, as well as support the
Group’s overall digital development. He will report directly to Thomas Hesse, President Corporate Development and New Businesses, Bertelsmann AG. Reichart joins Bertelsmann from Hubert Burda Media, where he currently serves as Managing Director DLD reporting directly to the Burda CEO and handles international marketing and investments and digital policy as part of Burda Digital’s senior management.

Marcel Reichart completed his doctorate in business at the University of Koblenz (WHU), with stints abroad in Lyon, Washington, D.C. and Rome in 2000, and subsequently served as board member of the media incubator Venturepark. He has been with Hubert Burda Media since 2002, first as Head of Staff for Hubert Burda, then as Managing Director Research, Development, Marketing & Communication, as Managing Director of DLD Ventures, and currently of DLD Media. Reichart is a co-founder of the international Digital Life Design (DLD) Conference, and was named a Young Global Leader at the 2005 World Economic Forum.
