Oceanhouse media has launched the Dr. Seuss Bookshelf, a new app that allows readers to discover, purchase and organize the 45 Dr. Seuss e-book apps that Oceanhouse has published to date.
The app is free to download in the iTunes store and will organize any Oceanhouse Dr. Seuss apps the reader already has on their device. Users can also browse and purchase other Dr. Seuss apps.
For now, users will still have to go through Apple’s purchase process, but Oceanhouse Media president Michel Kripalani said that soon, the bookshelf will become a true bookstore and readers will be able to make seamless purchases without leaving the app.
In addition to the app making it easier for consumers to read and buy Oceanhouse Dr. Seuss apps, the bookshelf will act as a marketing lever for the company when it releases new apps.
“One of the shelves says “featured” and that’s where we’re going to list anything on sale,” said Kripalani. “We do also have push notifications.”
In April, Ruckus Media launched a similar app for readers to discover its titles and make in-app purchases.
A recent study from the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop found that 38% of parents had iPads and of that group, nearly three-quarters read to their children on the devices.
