No Easy Day Tops E-Book Best-Seller List as Release Approaches
Penguin’s highly anticipated No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden leapfrogged all three books in the Fifty Shades trilogy and last week’s No. 1 best-selling e-book Gone Girl to take the top spot on our list this week — the last full week before its official release on Sept. 11.
Since it came to light that Penguin would publish an account of the raid written anonymously by a Navy SEAL who had been there, the book has been all over the news.
First, the anonymous soldier who was writing under the pen name Mark Owen was outed by Fox News as Matt Bissonnette, 36, of Wrangell, Alaska.
Once outed, Bissonnette was threatened with possible legal action by the Pentagon, which claimed that he violated a non-disclosure agreement he signed by sharing potentially sensitive information about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
And last night, he appeared on weekly news magazine show 60 Minutes to take viewers through the raid beat by beat.
As they say, there’s no such thing as bad publicity — and the proof’s in the pudding for No Easy Day, following up several weeks of all kinds of publicity with a No. 1 e-book ranking.
In other news, Fifty Shades continues to slip slightly, making room for fall’s big releases.
