New DIY E-Bookstore Based on Different Business Model

Dimcos is a new e-bookstore that charges publishers a monthly fee and a fee per title uploaded for sale — but publishers keep 100% of the sale price.

The monthly fee model, however, seems to be a bit complicated, per the company’s “about” website:

Dimcos webstore is based on transactional fees for customers. Publisher pays per uploaded title plus a monthly service fee. The book is in Dimcos service for desired time in three (3) months cycles. Uploading fee is charged upon uploading the content to service. Monthly fees are charged separately on base of the usage of the published content.

In addition to providing a storefront, Dimcos claims to provide a reading experience for users that allows social sharing of books and in-book conversations.

The company announced yesterday that its e-bookstore would be powered by Finland-based technology firm Ixonos.
