Publishers Lunch is reporting that Macmillan is being restructured into three worldwide divisions in a shift that indicates the increasingly international nature of the book business.
Macmillan US president John Sargent will be head of Global Trade, the consumer trade book business. Macmillan UK CEO Annette Thomas will helm the Global Science and Education division. A third unit will be comprised of newspapers, magazines and other digital media assets.
Chairman of Macmillan parent company, Germany’s Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH publishing group, wrote in a statement obtained by Publishers Lunch, “The reorganization will allow us to take even more advantage of the converging forces of digitization and globalization by providing us with increased focus and flexibility.”
