HarperCollins to Offer Books Through Subscription Service With Partner Skillsoft

Print Friendly

HarperCollins will be offering some of its e-book titles through a subscription service for the business market for the first time through a partnership with Skillsoft, a cloud-based learning platform used by businesses to train their employees.

Business books from several HarperCollins authors will be featured as part of Skillsoft’s BusinessPro on-demand training section, including Dan Ariely, Jim Champy, Peter Drucker and more.

This year has seen several publishers experiment with subscription programs, including Sourcebooks with Discover a New Love and F+W Media (parent to DBW) with its Artists Network eBook Book Club.

Many publishers also already work with e-book subscription providers like Safari Books Online, which has a collection of tens of thousands technical and training books, and Spanish company 24Symbols.

Of course, Amazon Kindle device owners who are also Amazon Prime subscribers have access to over 100,000 e-book titles through the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

Publishing consultant (and DBW partner) Mike Shatzkin doesn’t think that a mass-market e-book subscription service is on the way, however. Read more on his thoughts here.

  1. I am glad that HarperCollins is going to experiment with a handful of titles. They have great content and allowing more readers access is a smart move. Hopefully this is the start of many more books under subscription and other models.
