Hachette Poaches Bloomsbury’s Schnittman for Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Role
UPDATE: A spokesperson for Hachette gave Digital Book Wire some additional details on the Evan Schnittman appointment.
Schnittman will report to Hachette CEO David Young and will have several vice presidents reporting to him: Chris Barba, executive vice president of sales, Martha Otis, senior vice president of advertising and promotion, and Maja Thomas, senior vice president of Hachette Digital. No executives are leaving the company as a result of this move. This is a newly created position at the company.
“Evan and Maja will combine their expertise and passion for digital and evolve how Hachette approaches the wide variety of markets we call ‘digital,’” said Sophie Cottrell, a spokesperson for Hachette.
Schnittman’s last day at Bloomsbury will be April 27 and he will start at Hachette on May 7 and be based in New York.

EVAN SCHNITTMAN JOINS HACHETTE BOOK GROUP AS CHIEF MARKETING AND SALES OFFICER
(March 23, 2012) – Hachette Book Group announces today that Evan Schnittman has been appointed Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer. In this newly created role, Schnittman will lead HBG’s marketing and sales for all divisions of the company.
Schnittman has a well-established reputation as a technology innovator and thought leader, with 25 years of publishing related business experience. He comes to HBG from Bloomsbury Publishing, where he was Managing Director, Group Sales and Marketing, Print & Digital. Prior to that position he spent eight years at Oxford University Press in a variety of roles, ultimately as VP Global Corporate and Business Development
As Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, Schnittman will be responsible for the sales and marketing direction for HBG. He will integrate and oversee HBG’s sales management (digital and physical), marketing communications (Business to Business as well as consumer websites), advertising and promotions, and the market research and analytics groups. Schnittman will help enable HBG to navigate successfully the challenges and opportunities that today’s book publishing industry faces. He will start at Hachette Book Group on May 7.
