On Friday or Saturday this week, the 40 milliontheBook in2012 will be downloaded from bookboon.com. By achieving this record breaking number, 2012 has become the most successful year in the eBook publisher’s history.
Thomas Buus Madsen,COO and founder of bookboon.com,expects to break the record this Friday evening or Saturdayduring the night,GMT. “It is very likely that the 40 millionth book will be downloaded somewhere in the United States, where users are most active around those hours. Tuesday, we were merely lacking 250.000 downloads, so we are very excited at the Bookboonheadquarters”.

Bookboon is a publisher of digital academic textbooks and business books which can be downloaded for free by anyone. Buus Madsen explains the success: “We observed the breakthrough of eReading in 2012. The number of eReader and tablet owners has increased significantly and more and more people are looking for inexpensive and interesting books. When we started with e-publishing in 2005,the ‘experts’ were very sceptical about our concept and digital reading in general. This week, by achieving this amazing record, we proved them wrong.”
More growth in 2013
The publisher wants to keep the momentum in the new year. “In 2012 we published 200 new books – we intend to double this next year. Furthermore,we collected over175.000 Facebook fans in 2012, and look forward to reaching half a million in 2013. The 40 million downloads was an increase of 400% compared to 2011. Growing by the same rate in 2013 sounds like a very big challenge but following our success in 2012, we have no doubt the new year will be full of surprises”.SaysBuus Madsen.
