Fifty Shades and Hunger Games Loosen Grip on E-Book Best-Sellers
Penguin’s Winter of the World by Ken Follett, the highest debut book on the list this week.
Long-time best-selling series Fifty Shades of Grey and The Hunger Games are starting to fall from the top of the e-book best-seller charts.
New fall releases like Random House’s Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and Penguin’s No Easy Day by Mark Owen traded off the Nos. 1 and 2 spots this week, with Gone Girl ascending. A Sept. 18 release, Penguin’s Winter of the World: Book Two of the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett debuted on the list at No. 7. Hachette’s Low Pressure by Sandra Brown also was released this week and debuted on the list — at No. 15. (More on Winter of the World.)
At the same time, Fifty Shades and Hunger Games may not be selling at the same clip as earlier this year. The Hunger Games is the caboose of the top ten e-book best-sellers; and the Fifty Shades books are at Nos. 3, 4, and 5 — pedestrian compared to several months ago when they held the top three spots for what seemed like forever.
Perhaps most telling is that the Fifty Shades bundle (all three books for $29.99) slipped down the list again this week to No. 21. It’s an incremental decrease, but it’s also the fifth week in a row the bundle has dropped down the list since starting off on our debut best-seller list at No. 9.
