Atria Books announced a two-book deal with bestselling self-published author Colleen Hoover. Both books, SLAMMED and POINT OF RETREAT, will be released immediately as Atria ebooks with an Atria trade paperback editions to follow in September.
SLAMMED, Hoover’s first novel, was originally self-published as an ebook and trade paperback in January 2012. Throughout the spring and summer, it has been steadily rising on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, recently appearing at No. 8 on the Times list. Her website and blog receives over 100,000 visitors. SLAMMED is the heart-wrenching story of a young woman who falls in love with a new neighbor with a passion for slam poetry and the obstacles they encounter.
The second book in the series, POINT OF RETREAT, was originally published as an ebook and trade paperback in February 2012. It is currently No. 18 on the Times list. The ebook has sold over 122,000 copies in the U.S.
Judith Curr, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Atria Books, says, “We are thrilled to welcome Colleen to Atria where we have prided ourselves on building the long term careers for our authors. The readers’ reviews point to their love of Colleen’s characters and storylines, which makes her the perfect addition to our women’s fiction program.”
Atria won the rights to the books after a heated bidding war. The deal, for World rights, was negotiated by Atria Vice President, Senior Editor Johanna Castillo with Jane Dystel of Dystel & Goderich Literary Management.
Colleen lives in Texas with her husband and their three boys.
